Transportation in Bali
At first glance, Bali’s transportation may seem hectic and disorganized—horns blaring, no one using mirrors, and overtaking from all directions. Yes, they drive on the left side of the road. However, once you get accustomed to the flow, it becomes easier to navigate and enjoy.
Taxis and Mobile Apps
In the cities, you’ll find plenty of taxis ready to take you wherever you need to go. A more cost-effective option is to use ride-hailing apps like GoJek or Grab, where you can see the fare and book a ride directly from your phone. Public transportation is not well-developed in Bali.
Car with Driver for a Full Day
You can also hire a driver for the entire day. They will take you to the sights you want to visit and wait for you at each location. This is ideal if you have a group or a lot of luggage. A driver can also act as a guide, sharing interesting facts and suggesting places you might not know about.
The cost for a car with a driver for a full day is around 700,000 IDR.
Scooters and Motorbikes
Scooters are the most common mode of transport in Bali. Nearly everyone has one. It’s a fast and affordable way to avoid traffic jams. Remember to wear a helmet when riding a scooter!
The rental cost for a scooter ranges from 60,000 to 120,000 IDR per day.
Fast Boats and Ferries
Boats are frequently used for travel from Bali to neighboring islands. Fast boats run from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. Ferries depart from Padangbai to Lombok, and fast boats from Padangbai or Amed to Lombok and the Gili Islands.
A fast boat ride from Padangbai to the Gili Islands takes about an hour and a half and costs around 200,000 IDR.
A speedboat ride from Sanur to Nusa Penida takes less than an hour and is available for around 150,000 IDR.
